Let me help you make a list of resolutions that you can (and will) stick to! We can all benefit from taking our health to the next level :)
*Adopt a daily routine of self-care
Deep breathing, meditation, journaling, reading, getting a massage, whatever you can do alone to relax!
*Get rid of all of the plastic in your life
Switch from tupperware to Pyrex glass dishes. Grab a reusable glass or aluminum water bottle. Plastic containers often contain BPA and should not be reused or put in the dishwasher.
*Avoid using the microwave
Banned in several countries, the microwave tears apart the molecules in your food, rendering some nutrients dead (at best) and carcinogenic (at its worst!). Microwaving your food in plastic containers is a double whammy! Why turn your beautiful (and expensive) organic food into dead food that causes disease?!? For more info, visit http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2010/05/18/microwave-hazards.aspx
*Switch from canned beans to dried beans
Dried beans have zero preservatives, are cheaper than canned, last longer, are sodium-free, are less harmful on the environment, are BPA-free, AND taste better! If that doesn't convince you, we don't know what will :)

To cleanse or not to cleanse?
It's
that time again... As we near the beginning of a new year it seems
like commercials and advertisements for detoxes, cleanses, weight loss
programs, and so on are omnipresent. It screams to me "you need
to punished for your holiday sins! Put yourself in food prison for all
of December's reckless abandonment!". What I know to be true is that
using these tools in an effort to correct, improve, or punish oneself
will only backfire. How many of us have done a detox or cleanse only to
end it with a huge cheeseburger and fries (HopDoddy anyone)?! The back
and forth is more harmful to the body than the food itself.
Do
I think it is important to cleanse? Yes, I believe as the seasons
change, or with the beginning of a new year, it is wise to give the body
a little help in renewing itself, but I want it to arise out of a
compassionate desire to reach for better health, not as a quick fix to
undue bad behaviors. I think it would be a great idea to cleanse with
the new year, but be careful to recognize what is driving you to do so
(love or punishment?).
We
love these cleanse packets from Designs for Health because they provide
the body a deeper cleanse naturally using the highest quality nutrients
and extraction methods. If you decide to couple it with the food
guidelines of our 10 day detox then you will reap the benefits of the
synergy between food and herbs. As we all agree that the pressure to
cleanse during this time of year is a tad redundant, I want to make sure
that IF you decide that doing a cleanse is the right choice for you at
this time, that you have access to the highest quality products and
support. For this reason, we are offering 10% savings on our favorite
cleanse packets throughout the month of december and January. Please
consult your doctor before you do any sort of cleansing or supplement
regimen.
So, to cleanse or not to cleanse? This is entirely up to you. What I wish for everyone during this eating season is a level of food consciousness that helps guide you through the holiday parties and gatherings. Let's all set the intention to reflect back on this holiday season and feel proud of the eating choices we have made. Let's all share the goal of having our bodies be the physical manifestation of how much we love and care for ourselves. Be good to yourself!
